Wanted: Spotters, Swimmers, Snorklers and Divers!

Updated: Our thanks to the many people of all ages who gave up their time to help out with the cleanup. Photos are now posted in the Blueberry Island photo gallery: http://www.lwra.net/v/environmental_events/blueberry/

The Friends of Blueberry Island committee is holding an underwater cleanup of the area surrounding Blueberry Island. Over the years this popular destination has slowly been surrounded by empty cans, bottles and other detritus. It's time to clean up after ourselves!!!

When: Sunday, September 6 (the Sunday of Labour Day Weekend)

Where: The exact time and marshalling area will be discussed at the Corn Roast.

NOTICE TO BOATERS: Please exercise extreme caution when operating around Blueberry Island on Sunday September 6 as we will have swimmers underwater!

What to bring:

  • Your swim gear. The water around the island is not particularly deep, but a swim mask or goggles are required to see the garbage on the bottom.
  • Water shoes or booties. There may be sharp objects on the bottom.
  • Mesh bag, if possible, to carry objects to the garbage cans.

We will supply garbage cans and bags.
